What Tariq Lamptey would bring to Manchester United.

A thread:
Tariq Lamptey is a 20 year old right back who plays for Brighton and represents England at U21 level.
The main positions in which Tariq Lamptey plays for Brighton.

Based on the graphic his main positions are highlighted green, with the brighest colour displaying his most-played position.
Based on our performance against Brighton a few weeks ago, only 6% of our attacks have been coming from the right, massive improvement needed there.

We look too predictable and unbalanced which makes it easier for teams who play against us.
Now let’s look at his best and worst attributes in his overall game:
Attacking with Electrifying-Speed,

Lamptey is an extremely attack-minded full-back, who continuously gets up and down the right flank of the pitch. His exceptional level of pace and tireless energy enables him to get forward in attack.
The image below shows a typical position that Lamptey likes to take up when Brighton are on the attack. By playing high and wide, he is able to find space in a dangerous offensive position, as seen below.
If the opponent decides to pull wide to get tight with him, it allows the Brighton midfield to exploit the gap created in the opposition backline.

The ball would be fed into the gap for Lamptey who then uses his pace to get the ball behind the defender and run towards the box.
Lamptey’s End Product,

Against Newcastle, he gave Allan Saint-Maximin a run only for the Frenchman to foul Lamptey to the ground, resulting in a penalty.

Lamptey’s dribbling ability was well shown, taking up a wide position and coming inside, as shown in the image below.
Another quality Lamptey has is his crossing. For an attacking full-back, being able to cross a ball is important.

He has the skill and pace to beat full-backs in a one-on-one situation, so effective crossing is an area of his game where he could potentially pose a lot of threat.
Defensive Qualities,

When Brighton have the ball, he takes up a high, wide position to offer as an option for his team.

We can see this positioning that Lamptey likes to take up. The CB is able to find him in space with a pass that breaks the first opposition line of defence.
However, when play breaks down, or when the other team has possession, Lamptey does a very good job to take in to make a back four or back five.

His quick turn of pace allows him to push them extra yards up the pitch in the confidence he will be able track back in time.
With his explosive speed, Lamptey offers himself as an available option for his teammates to get out of trouble.

He will fancy his chances against anyone in a foot race. Despite being physically weak and short, he manages to handle players with a greater physicality.
Almost out of nowhere, Lamptey sprinted back to make a last ditch tackle to avoid the danger.

As shown in the picture below, Marcos Alonso, despite being several yards ahead of Lamptey, was caught up quickly and met with a crunching tackle.
These are some of the common positions in which Lamptey likes to roam around whether it being defensive or offensive.
Conclusion,

The early signs are good. Lamptey is still young and inexperienced, but his first handful of games in the Premier League have been of promising.

He has made the right back position his own. However, he needs to become more versatile with other positions as well.
Signing Lamptey wouldn’t only improve the quality in our team, it would give Wan-Bissaka a good amount of competition at RB and allow Brandon Williams to go on loan somewhere else.

We’ve seen how much Shaw has improved after Telles signed for us, it could be the same with AWB.
