I've seen some asexual people talking on Dan Olson's thread abt sex scenes saying how pointless sex scenes are, but like it's okay if sometimes things just aren't for you. I assume for example that when I do my video about Alfie, some asexuals in my audience simply won't watch it
I saw one person saying that they're asexual so they'd be fine if there were fewer sex scenes, and they also don't like gratuitous action in stories, and that kind of thing just misses the point entirely. The thread was about them being unfairly maligned as a storytelling element
It's fine if you don't like them, but if you qualify the sex scenes you're talking about with "gratuitous" then by definition you're talking about sex scenes you don't want to see.
It's also always important to consider voices that get overlooked, and I would like to hear opinions from asexuals about sexuality in movies & TV, but this just misses the point a little, is all
Taking the comparison to action scenes, I think we can all agree there's a lot of really tedious action in movies & TV, right?
But if public opinion started to shift towards "action is never good, we should never have action scenes" it wouldn't be helpful for me to add to that conversation with "I usually dislike action scenes"
As a queer & trans person I appreciate that it feels shitty when it looks like you might be being overlooked and ignored, but it really pays off to just have some trust in people sometimes

Exactly this. He didn't say "anyone who dislikes sex scenes for any reason" he's being clear about who he means https://twitter.com/snorenat/status/1344298809464127493
And now several people are replying to this thread thinking that by "not for you" I mean that you just shouldn't watch things that have sex scenes in if you're ace, which I didn't say and don't think.
Like, straight sexuality in media isn't something I would tell gay people to shut up about, but if the SINCERE take was "I would like if there were never any straight sex scenes" I would think that was silly and completely missed the point
Once again asking you to have some trust in people, think about what if they already thought the thing you're trying to point out, or if it's just a different conversation, and now I'm muting bye
Come back around to say if you're in my replies being openly antagonistic to ace people
