I want a world where light-skinned women don't get triggered by discussions about colorism to come tell us how even they are oppressed.
A world where married women don't get triggered when we discussed structural benefits marriage gives them in a patriarchal society, and then they come to tell us how they're also oppressed (while staying married)
A world where Cishet women sit and listen when queer folk talk to us about how our aligning with patriarchy hurts them.
A world where feminists sit and listen to trans folk, instead of feeling the need to defend themselves and to ringfence womanhood - whatever that means.
A world where skinny women sit and listen. Where we don't remember that we are skinny-shamed only when fatphobia comes up.
Abeg. We can't keep #AllLivesMattering only the things that touch on us, and then turning around and telling our oppressors that all lives do not in fact matter.
I find it very interesting that we understand structural discrimination when we are on the oppressed side, but once we are on the other side, we start claiming that it's a tactic to divide us.
Black men understand racism, but when it comes to patriarchy, they start saying it's a ploy by white folk to divide black people.
Women understand patriarchal oppression, but when we discuss colorism or transphobia, it's a tactic by patriarchy to divide women.
If your understanding of structural oppression is limited to the ways you're oppressed and you don't want to go beyond that, then you're not ready for this journey.
