New York heard the same arguments in 2009 and they proved baseless. In 2009, NYS raised income taxes on those making over $300,000 a year. Between 2010 and 2018, the number of tax filers with adjusted gross incomes of $1 million or more in New York grew from 35,802 to 57,210.
It’s also important to understand that New York creates millionaires, in addition to attracting them. That’s why even though New York only has 6% of the nation’s population it has 11% of the nation’s millionaires.
