A word about the MIT study that says the US vaccines don't work on Black and Asian people, from our science team @fodgycakes and @discoveryduck:

the MIT study used computer modeling that predicted vaccines based on the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein. 1/
Vaccines that exclusively encode RBC were predicted in simulations to not be able to induce immune response in black and Asian people.

HOWEVER

Moderna's vaccine uses WHOLE spike protein.
Astrazeneca's vaccine uses WHOLE spike protein.
Pfizer's trials had two vaccine variants 2/
one with just the RBD and one with whole spike protein. The whole spike protein version is the ONLY ONE APPROVED FOR USE in the UK and US.

the MIT study predicted about 97% coverage of every POC group as well. All the vaccines should be effective for most ppl. Additionally 3/
Asians and other POC continue to be specifically recruited for trials in order to have diversity in participants. Most trials will start only recruiting older people (also underrepresented in trials but overrepresented in COVID) or POC. 4/
Is it too little to late? Probably, but there is effort being put in to protect everyone, and the vaccines available in the US should be effective for most people in every demographic.
