If you don't have any existing art of your character and want to commission an artist, consider the following to create references:

I personally also accept Pinterest moodboards or random image search pulls, but I don't accept art of characters you DO NOT OWN as a reference. You may find the perfect character art on Pinterest, but keep in mind that it's likely uploaded there without... ->
...the artist's/owner's permission! And they would not be comfortable with you using or ripping off their personal character. Here's what you can do about this: .. ->
Source the artwork and tell the artist you're about to commission what you like about it. They can use it as inspiration to create your character, WITHOUT ripping of someone else's design.
I'm saying all this because I've had uncomfortable situations in the past where I didn't know if the design reference linked was owned by the commissioner.
