#Reflections on life (in no particular order) 🦋 #thread 1/n

Hierarchies based not on merit but only on reverence for elites, institutions, locations, dead greats are rubbish.
Many will selectively care.
Opportunists, careerists, sycophants, mimics, and social chameleons are interesting to observe but odious to tolerate.
Honesty isn’t appreciated by most.
Mediocrity and selfishness rules the world, challenging this is very hard and makes life hell for a thinking person.
Echo chambers and totalitarian sympathies aren’t just a feature of the political right. Undisguised bigotry is horrifying; in clever disguise, it’s still unbearable.
A lot of people feel entitled.
Mindfulness is a lifelong responsibility, there is no realisation without active reflection.
Thinking is an act, often people prefer unquestioning narratives that justify theIr views.
Judgement is essential as is learning to acknowledge mistakes.
Understanding an action is not condoning it, the line between the two matters.
No one is above critique, but lazy facile generalisations abound because they’re designed to win approval and take sides in ever widening chasms.
Health is the biggest blessing.
Love without loss of identity is the rarest find.
Laughing is underrated, neoliberal versions of life and love are overrated.
Some of the most wonderful people one meets in life are those we encounter briefly and serendipitously.
Transience is the hardest lesson to learn.
There’s a lot of plastic in the world, and I don’t mean just the material kind. Raw and real people, as opposed to just clever and successful ones, are a treasure; with all their frailties and mistakes, they’re the most precious ones to hold on to.
Hope is poetic, in the sense of being both potentially destructive and also sustaining all at once.
Kindness makes the world go round.
Gratitude is a beautiful emotion, perhaps the best.
The lessons of a good childhood, when well learnt, can make the world a little better and more bearable for so many others.
The fight for justice is never done.
