Türkgücü München, in their first season in the 3. Liga have confirmed the departure of their main investor, Hasan Kivran. The club has now said if they cannot find a new investor by the end of January, they face insolvency and the rest of their games will he forfeited.
It is interesting that Kivran has essentially solely bankrolled Türkgücü to back-to-back promotions since he took over in 2018. This has come at the cost of overhauling the clubs Turkish identity on the pitch, with Kivran signing 16 players (mostly all non-Turkish) this season.
Though Kivran has not violated the #50+1 model, his money has given him huge power at the club, something which has drawn critics ever since he became involved. Türkgücü are now asking their fans to make investments in the way of ‘virtual tickets’ for their game against Dresden.
This all shows why, in spite of the great successes of #50+1 there are still ways to get around it, resulting in disproportionate control for some (see also: Rasenballsport). Türkgücü is vital for the large Turkish community in Munich and this could now be destroyed by one man.
Sportschau warned of the dangers of Kivran’s investment as well as the role the club has in the Turkish community a couple of months ago in this documentary
