Wide combination play: Analysis of #LUFC’s fifth goal vs West Brom.
Originally, Raphinha begins wide and deep whilst Dallas moves into a central position to help progress the ball.
Shackleton drops in order to receive from Dallas; he is able to drag a defender away from his position in order to create eventual passing lane to find third man run of Raphinha.
Dallas counties run on blindside of Gallagher and receives one-two return pass. Ball can be progressed to Raphinha, who is advancing into space after opposition full-back and centre-back become attracted to the ball and fail to track dangerous third man run.
Dallas continues run into box, dragging defender with him and away from the central area. This allows Raphinha to drive into dangerous space, from where he eventually scores.
Excellent example of how one-two’s, decoy runs and third man runs can disorientate an opponent’s defensive structure and therefore create space to attack.
