Because Doctor Who Twitter is a shit show, I’m gonna share something I like in every series of the show:
Season 1 - Terry Nation is on the top of his game as a writer, the show is spooky yet comforting, the episode variety is massive and the historicals are all meticulously designed to create truly immersive adventures
Season 2 - My personal favourite! The TARDIS team chemistry is wonderful, the Romans is a superb comedy, and the general light hearted tones across the season (mixed with the occasional darker tale) helps cement the First Doctor’s character
Season 3 - The change in producers feels seamless, as we head into the 12-part epic of The Daleks Master Plan which refuses to drag. We get the War Machines, a blueprint for 70s Who, and the Gunfighters is an unrivalled musical feel-good story
Season 4 - The first regeneration is handled surprisingly well, and The Evil of the Daleks is an early sign of stories directly running into each other. The Daleks are at their most menacing, and the Cybermen help to create a more human threat
Season 5 - 2, Jamie and Victoria have great chemistry together, and Victoria’s departure hits all the right notes. The season is filled with iconic monsters, iconic introductions, and the Yeti sage is enthralling throughout
Season 6 - The Mind Robber is the most creative story in Who history, the Invasion is perhaps the most iconic, and The War Games is a superb mix of emotion and action
Season 7 - Inferno is madness, but in the best possible way. Doctor Who and the Silurians is political dynamite, and Pertwee, Courtney and John have amazing chemistry
Season 8 - The running thread of Delgado’s Master is, naturally, a high point of 70s Who. The Mind of Evil is surreal, while The Daemons is fundamentally the perfect UNIT story
Season 9 - The Curse of Peladon is amazing, satirising contemporary politics with timeless characters. The Sea Devils is also probably the highlight of Delgado’s stint as the Master
Season 10 - The Three Doctors sets a precedent for all future anniversary stories, while the Green Death has that emotional core surrounded by a story that feels just as relevant today as it would have at the time
Season 11 - The Time Warrior introduces both a legendary companion and an unrivalled foe, while placing the Third Doctor in a historical (a long overdue concept). Plus, the plot twist in Invasion of the Dinosaurs is electrifying
Season 12 - Genesis of the Daleks is one of those stories that shall be heralded for as long as there are still Doctor Who fans, and rightly so. Plus, Tom Baker tumbled into the role and makes it his own almost instantly
Season 13 - SCORBY! A run of 6 amazing stories, from the brilliantly designed Zygons to the high stakes Bond-esque thriller with the Krynoid
Season 14 - The Deadly Assassin was an ingenious move, creating a legacy for the Time Lords which has only been expanded and evolved since
Season 15 - Sontarans on Gallifrey! Also, let’s not forget K9, a simple yet genius introduction to the TARDIS crew
Season 16 - The Androids of Tara is a compelling tale throughout, and Mary Tamm’s Romana is woefully underrated
Season 17 - Douglas Adams as script editor. That’s all that needs to be said. This is the tone I’d go for as showrunner of Doctor Who, and stories like City of Death and Shada are utter masterpieces
Season 18 - JNT and 80s synth! Anthony Ainley explodes onto the screen, and the series is full of total classics like State of Decay and The Keeper of Traken
Season 19 - Earthshock remains utterly evocative, with that ending piercing a very large portion of my heart. Oh and also giant snake boi
Season 20 - The Black Guardian Trilogy holds its own throughout, and we get the introduction of my personal inspiration, Kamelion. Also, Martin Clunes in makeup is a godsend
Season 21 - The Caves of Androzani...what can I say about it that hasn’t already been said? Pure, haunting genius
Season 22 - The new episode format works surprisingly well, and The Two Doctors makes apt use of it. Plus, the stuff in Revelation of the Daleks really pushes the borders of what Doctor Who can do
Season 23 - Mel is there, I love her so much, she’s the best, marry me Melanie. Also Terror of the Vervoids is a top notch story, but mostly Mel
Season 24 - MORE MEL. Also, Time and the Rani is proper goofy fun
Season 25 - Remembrance of the Daleks is a well-rounded celebration of the shows past, the Happiness Patrol is biting political commentary with a truly classic villain, and the Greatest Show in the Galaxy feels the most alien of any Who episode (at least to me)
Season 26 - Survival is the perfect end to the Classic Show, and adequately summarises everything that comes before. Also, the Curse of Fenric and Ghost Light establish a new tone that would have defined the onset of 90s Who (if we ever got it)
Series 1 - Christopher Eccleston gets the ball rolling on a shiny new era of the show. And certain stories, like Dalek, Fathers Day and Boom Town, are wholly timeless
Series 2 - Love and Monsters is actually really good you guys! 😡

Also, the Girl in the Fireplace just gets everything about the Tenth Doctor’s character right
Series 3 - Martha is just the best, I love her so much. Also, that finale gets 90% of its beats right, all across the three parts. In fact, I’d be hard pressed to find a bad story in the series at all
Series 4 - Midnight is a classic, well and truly, and the End of Time plays every scene out to build up the agony behind regeneration (also, some of Gold’s best music)
Series 5 - My comfort series! It makes me feel all warm and snuggly, before I bring out the waterworks at Vincent and the Doctor
Series 6 - The Doctor’s Wife and the Girl Who Waited take Rory and Amy’s relationships to the extremes, and the show is all the better for it
Series 7 - The Snowmen is stupidly underrated, perhaps the Great Intelligences best story. Plus, Cold War is a great return for the Ice Warriors
Series 8 - The new angle on the Doctor is fascinating, and is best displayed in classics like Time Heist and Mummy on the Orient Express
Series 9 - The Zygon two-parter is the best example of political commentary in the Moffat era, and the final two episodes bounce off each other surprisingly well
Series 10 - Empress of Mars is true classic joy, and John Simm falls straight back into the role of the Master. Also, I love Bill, she’s great
Series 11 - Perhaps the most inventive modern series, refusing to rely on the past and carving its own path to great success. Demons of the Punjab is just perfection
Series 12 - The best reinvention of the Cybermen and the Master in decades, establishing a true counter to Whittaker’s Doctor, and perhaps the series most packed with plot twists and surprises
