Lots in here but there’s a few things I want to pull out that apply to businesses, leading teams and to the business of being human (the personal also applies to groups - and that’s how I coach on leadership because it’s more immediately relevant) https://hbr.org/amp/2020/12/how-to-lead-when-your-team-is-exhausted-and-you-are-too
1. We are now outside the time period of usual quick hit coping/survival mechanisms working - we need different strategies or sustainable coping mechanisms (this article calls it psychological stamina) - this is what I work with people on in coaching because it works longer term
2. Some of this I disagree quite strongly with and can be applied BADLY but one thing that needs highlighting is not ‘when covid 19 is over, I’ll sort this’ - whether that’s business or home or emotional response. And keeping up and active is important - we need to express energy
3. This is relevant whether you are talking abou business or yourself - are you limbering up to prepare yourself and your resilience and adaptability for when we come out of this - what foundations are you laying now in this winter?
And now this is the thing that is HUGE - there is more call now for leaders to be compassionate at work - gosh this is a paragraph that is so clunky because it speaks to something that must be cultivated as a value within oneself
If as a leader/manager/boss you have struggled with interpersonal and being overtly caring and the emotions bit NOW IS THE TIME TO LEARN. And it can be learnt - but as I said this is why I coach leadership uniquely with someone according to who they are
Otherwise it sounds and feels like a bloody awful add on - you know your boss doesn’t care, they don’t know how to approach these issues with their partners even, or themselves - listening makes them feel awkward and they feel resentful and five years old
