Discussed this topic extensively with one of my friends yesterday. And easily, this issue boils down, yet again, to a difference in culture.

Just a bit of my opinion in my thread below ⬇️ https://twitter.com/Iabeom/status/1342946330151432198
I understand how babying kpop idols can seem weird to an outsiders POV (esp westerners who don’t typically uphold the “cute”/“baby” concept). This is simply due to the difference in lifestyles - Aegyo is not normalised in other non-Korean/Japanese cultures.

1/?
There’s also the argument that babying adults feeds into the normalisation of pedophile behavior. So to a certain extent, associating grown adults with baby-like features can potentially be harmful in propagating this notion ONLY IF there are sexual nuances behind the post.

2/?
So generally, we have an understanding that pedophilia is a big no ❌ across all communities. And we can agree that babying adults is not everyone’s cup of tea.

That’s the general consensus everyone can agree with and let’s move on.

3/?
Going back to OP’s tweet, nowhere in her post (or on her twitter account) does she ever try to use baby-like expressions to sexualise the kpop idol. She does not and never associated being cute/baby-like to anything sexual.

4/?
Therefore, the main objective behind her tweets are to praise the idol for being “cute” and “adorable” - See pictures in tweet for reference. There’s no ulterior meaning behind her tweets as you can clearly see yourself.

5/?
Neither the idol himself nor his agency have expressed dislike with the fans for thinking he is cute or baby. So as long as the subject is not uncomfortable, there is no wrong in her actions/words.

6/?
Tl/dr: “Infantalization” is dangerous and wrong when someone brings in a sexual connotation to it. IMO, to label someone cute/baby, is fine as long as the main subject is not uncomfortable.

Happy to hear what other people think too, but in an appropriate manner, please.

7/7
Also, if you wanna say that forcing idols to do aegyo is wrong and that some idols just do it to appease their fans. Well, that’s another cultural topic up for debate next time 🤷‍♀️
