#Brexit and #Space - The good, bad and the ugly.

A short 🧵detailing which programmes the UK loses, where co-operation continues and how participation with #ESA is affected.
#Galileo & #EGNOS: UK is out

The TCA & annexes have no mention of Galileo.

A gov advisory states that the UK will

- not use G for defence or national infrastructure
- have access to the encrypted PRS
- be part in the dev of G or EGNOS
- able to use EGNOS SoL or access EDAS
Buuuut:

The UK is in discussions "with the EU on an #EGNOS service access agreement", which would restore access / allow co-operation to yet undefined scope.
#Copernicus: The UK re-joins

The UK "shall participate in the Copernicus component and benefit from Copernicus services and products in the same way as other participating countries"

CAVEAT: participation is "subject to a specific agreement" which yet has to be negotiated.
An upside👍:

Included is "full access to the #Copernicus Emergency Management Service" which, amongst other things, provides rapid mapping service in cases of natural/human-made disasters.
Upside #2👍:

Beyond data simple access, this means UK industry and scientists will be "able to bid for future Copernicus contracts tendered through the EU"
Space Situational Awareness: No more 👎

The UK leaves the EU's Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) programme.

Thus UK organisations will not be able to:
- contribute to providing services
- participate in scientific and technical groups,
- receive grant funding
Space Situational Awareness: small upside 👍

However, the UK will continue to receive EUSST data on the same conditions as other 3rd-party nations. #SpaceDebris
