Many more people died before modern medicine. We knew how to deal with this. It was a fact of life.
Now we are collectively going insane in our feverish pursuit of transcendence. What is happening?
We do not know how to deal with a world without modern luxuries.
Many more people died before modern medicine. We knew how to deal with this. It was a fact of life.
Now we are collectively going insane in our feverish pursuit of transcendence. What is happening?
In the self-consciously modern world we think we are on a long road to eliminating death, and as such we have been trying to shed our old ways of dealing with death, as we seemingly slowly push it away with Medicine and Science.

It is actually immoral to try to achieve immortality. We were cursed with death at the Fall, thousands of years ago. It cannot be undone but by He who did it -- and indeed He has already undone it, but the fulfillment of this great deed has not yet come.
Christ conquered death on the cross by making it irrelevant for believers. It has no power over us. But He will complete this work when He returns, by eliminating death entirely and restoring humanity to a glorified state by removing the curse.
Any attempt by us to artificially achieve this on our own, without God, is immoral, destined to fail, and will only drive us mad.

Modernity is a cult of immortality. We seek to transcend our fallen nature, but we do not look to our Creator for this transcendence, which is offered to us in Christ if we repent, but instead we try to achieve it by the works of our own hands: Science, Medicine, Technology, etc.
These works, however impressive they may be, are gods to us. The prophet speaks truly of our gods when he says they cannot hear, nor speak, nor act, as the true God can.
Only a real and all-powerful Person can help us, not an impersonal art or force such as "Science".

Furthermore, we were designed to live without every modern invention, luxury, service, or other work of our hands we look to for salvation. Everything we are doing today is taking us further and further away from how we were designed to live, and it's hurting us. We feel it.
We were designed to live without modern medicine. And indeed we did, for thousands of years. More people died this way. But that is what is given to us on this earth. Shall we say to our Creator, why have you done this?
We artificially prolong our lives, hide in our high-rise pods, watch artificial entertainment while eating artificial food, living in total fear of a mild virus which has a 0.01% chance of killing us -- and we wonder why we feel so empty inside. Our gods cannot save us.
I feel like the Preacher here. Vanity of vanities. All is vanity. Our medicine is vanity. Our science is vanity. Our technology is vanity. Our modern world -- all of it -- is vanity.
Fear God, repent, and believe in the name of Christ for salvation. This is the only salvation.
