I feel like this is what happens when history courses act as though slavery invented black people and then conveniently the end of slavery magicked them away until Civil Rights could invent them again.

For one thing, the presence of black people should not violently disrupt your ability to enjoy a fictional television program. And if it does, I promise you that you know less about history than you think you do.

And even setting aside the question of fiction. For one thing, histories are social constructs that reflect attitudes toward the archive, not a factual readout of the archive itself. Like, get with it.
