🧵/ Florida’s % positivity is 26.3% today.

Let that sink in.

Now let me explain why. https://twitter.com/georebekah/status/1344122714190188552
🔥 Repeat testing. By making it easier for low-risk persons to get tested, and making it harder for high-risk persons to get tested, then you end up with lots of repeat (mostly) negative tests.

Prior to today, 66% of daily tests were repeats. Today it dropped to 28%. https://twitter.com/jasonsalemi/status/1344131158565515266
#SARSCoV2 doesn’t care if you’re testing for it or not. It will do its thing and infect other people.

Thanks to @GeoRebekah, we’ve known that FL has been fudging the numbers for months.

I raised the issue of data gaps caused by access to testing w/ the Trump then went public: https://twitter.com/datadrivenmd/status/1282394817524191232
I’m not suggesting that all of these instances were intentional or malicious, but in the case of Florida, Georgia, and Texas…that’s harder to say.

Regardless, what you end up with is a situation where the numbers look great, until they don’t.

That’s Florida.
So where is it harder/easier to find testing in FL. Generally speaking, the panhandle and Miami-Dade.

So why are we seeing it now? Because it's now it’s *everywhere* in Florida (i.e. exponential growth).

It’s gotten so bad that it’s impossible to fudge the numbers.
DeSantis’ #COVID19 deception has come home to roost.

People are showing up in ERs w/ #COVID19.
More persons are being admitted to hospitals for #COVID19, and an increasing % of hospitalized patients have COVID-19.

That’s everywhere in FL.
Take home points:

🔸 Data doesn’t lie

🔸 Ignoring data experts’ warnings is costing people’s lives

🔸 #COVID19 doesn’t care about political affiliations— socioeconomic disparities in access to testing, treatment, and/or vaccination *will* catch up to us— ALL of us.

And to be clear: I'm not just talking domestic disparities, whether Trump wants to admit it or not, our Latin American neighbors are among our most important strategic partners.

We need them, and they need our help. https://twitter.com/donwinslow/status/1344148377424916480
