Medhatithi called upon Agnidev and illuminated the Agni for yagya in the traditional way. Here Medha means knowledge. Whatever difficulties and vices exist in your intelligence can be nullified only by pure Knowledge received through enlightenment.

It is said that As per tradition, Medhatithi who had called upon Agnidev to ignite the Yagya. In the same tradition, the मुमुक्षु(Seekers of Moksha), bhakts or the sorrowful want to seek true Knowledge, are calling upon Parmatma to attain their wish.

कण्वः - Rishi Kanva.
ऋतात् - To Surya.

यम् अग्निम् - For Agni.
ईधे - To illuminate.
