The 19th century saw a global increase awerness of the land monopoly problem and an incredibly widespread support for fiscal (or even more direct) solution.

By contrast, these themes were far less promindnt in the mid 20th century only to resurface in the 21st century. why? 1/
Two 20th century inventions offered a temporary relief of the pressure buildinging up against the power of urban land monopolists: the car (that opened up sub marginal land for settlement) and the elevator (more options for accessing prime locations).
Furthermore, public welfare and work legislatikn efforts have lifted the standard of comfort for the low skilled workers and have diminished the most glaring effects of the land monopoly on the population.
However, by the 21st century, those mitigating factors are no longer that relevant. in part bc of the efforts to remove them (via zoning, reduction in welfare etc), but also because the monopoly has spread to the suburbs. Hence we see a renewed interest in the 19th century ideas.
