We're about to lose Section 230, folks. Keep in mind that Biden also supports its repeal, and said so out loud.
The Democrats are as indifferent to free speech -- when controlling speech serves their purposes -- as the Republicans.
We are in big, big trouble.

If you are framing the attacks on Section 230 as somehow bringing to heel the giant tech companies, you are buying the lies of people who want to control speech and what moves on the Internet (or, in many cases, have no idea what they're talking about in the first place).
Section 230 is entirely about free speech. It was written to protect freedom of expression.
But control-freak politicians and Big Journalism organizations insist on calling this law protection for Big Tech -- companies that in several cases didn't exist when it was written.

You may dislike Big Tech. Fine. But if you think repealing Section 230 will somehow wreck Google and Facebook, you're just ignorant of reality. It will entrench them.
It might well wreck Wikipedia, an invaluable resource operating on a relative shoestring.

It might well wreck the Internet Archive, another low-budget operation that does vast good for our world by preserving knowledge and history for anyone with an Internet connection.
It might well wreck startups that dare to attempt competing with Big Tech.

But it will absolutely wreck an overall ecosystem that has been a godsend for knowledge and freedom of expression.
Please, journalists, frame this issue accurately. It's about free speech, start to finish. And a lot of you are on the wrong side.

Saying again: People keep missing the point of the accelerating campaign to kill Section 230.
Whacking online free speech IS the point. But that's just a way station on the road to controlling speech.
What each of the attackers assumes is that his/her side will be in control.
