Reviewing three scenarios that involved unfollowing three men for different reasons this year. I’m sharing this info to open up discussion and welcome opinions on this murky topic.

🧵 - If you’ve been unfollowed, should you reach out to find out why? In my opinion, it depends.
Scenario 1: man reached out over DM to ask why I unfollowed. I was stunned because I hadn’t unfollowed him.

We determined it was either a block chain program he was using or a glitch with Twitter.

Glitches have been happening this year. I appreciated him reaching out.
Scenario 2: I unfollowed someone because he reminded me of ongoing harassment. Though this individual was not part of the harassment, I needed some distance.

He showed up in a convo weeks later - no animosity. I DMed to explain. He held no grudge. We refollowed each other.
Scenario 3: I unfollowed someone because he DMed retweet requests non-stop.

He reached out on LinkedIn.

I explained why.

He asked to reconnect.

I unfriended on LinkedIn.

He requested on LinkedIn and then started tagging me in posts on Twitter.

... ... ...
Sometimes an unfollow isn’t a big deal... until someone makes it a big deal.

Don’t assume the worst.

If you do decide to reach out, know that a non-answer is an answer.

Obviously, don’t hop platforms to start a new conversation when you’ve only engaged someone on Twitter.
And, of course, trust your instinct. You don’t owe anyone an explanation. 🧡 https://twitter.com/lonewriter87/status/1344052233051074560
