Another mini COVID vaccine thread:

So many healthcare workers want to help contribute to ending the pandemic. How can they help?
First some context:

The pandemic ends when we have enough vaccinated to reach herd immunity. So helping end the pandemic means helping ensure people get vaccinated.
Three steps for all healthcare workers to help end the pandemic:

Step 1) get educated

know the facts about the vaccines, how they works, how well they work, how safe they are

All healthcare workers can do this.

See the key info here:

https://tools.cep.health/tool/covid-19-vaccines/
Step 2

Get vaccinated (if medically appropriate)
Tell others about this
Tell also (if appropriate) that your family members will get vaccinated.

Be a role model!
Leverage the trust that your patients/clients/community place in you.

This is powerful! We can all do this
Try messaging all your patients and/or your communities to let them know your plans and to offer your insights on the vaccine
Step 3(a) Get skilled!

addressing vaccine hesitancy is a skill. There are better - and worse - ways to do this.

Here is a simple framework that @shots4health helped us make:

https://tools.cep.health/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/CEP_COVID-Framework_2020.12.18.pdf?utm_source=link.cep.health&utm_medium=urlshortener&utm_campaign=covid-vaccine
The framework is called the PrTCT Plan:

Proactively address the vaccines in every patient encounter and
Presume your patient will take it:

“I am/will get it and am looking forward to helping you get it when it is available for you”
Tailor the recommendation

“It’s because of xyz in your health/contextual history that I recommend for you specifically to get this vaccine”
Concerns solicited and addressed

“Can I help you with any questions or concerns you have about the vaccine?”
Talk through a Plan

“This is what will happen next to get you immunized...”
Step 3 continued... Get skilled!

It is natural for people to have questions and concerns. Build confidence and competence by practicing your answers to predictable questions.

Here are a set of common questions and answers:

https://tools.cep.health/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/CEP_COVID-OR_r4-Final.pdf?utm_source=link.cep.health&utm_medium=urlshortener&utm_campaign=covid-vaccine
Every single person that you move from hesitant to intention to action - that’s one step closer to ending the pandemic.
Step 4 - Get engaged

(Yes I know I said three - this one is for bonus points)

The call will come out for getting involved in vaccinating. Maybe at off hours. Stand up and help out if possible.
