Having been exposed to some Covid vaccine sceptics today, I was reminded of a discussion I had recently with a frontline Met police officer, who described how common it is for members of the public to dispute that the police have the legal powers they do.
Seems to betray a reluctance to accept professionalism and expertise, giving preference to lay opinions, disbelief and anecdotes.

See also arguments that Covid is relatively trivial, hospitals are empty, the clinical trials weren't robust etc.
More generally, I can't help reflecting on the level/quality of critical thinking skills in society, especially in weighing and evaluating different kinds of evidence.
