Okay so this is gonna be a thread on ADHD facts and symptoms from somebody who has adhd.

Fact #1- often people with adhd will get into moments of feeling very energetic or “In the zone” this is a case of hyperfocus. When someone w/ ADHD gets into this mode of being hyper focused they will feel like they can do anything. And often forget how much time has passed.
Fact #2- ppl with adhd often spend most of their time trying to find an interest in every little thing they do. This is due to that fact that the nervous system of someone with adhd is vastly different than someone w/o it. +t
This is why things like work , school assignments or generally anything they are being told to do by someone else can take them a very long time to complete the right way. Vs if they were too be doing something they found a true interest in
Fact #3 - people work ADHD have very passionate and emotional feelings. Because of these they are often dealing with emotional hyperarousal. This means that someone with adhd has very high , highs and extremely low , lows. As a result +
A person w/ adhd can experience major depression , anxiety , mood disorders , personality disorders , low self esteem and a lot of other mental illnesses
Fact #4- women or women aligned people with adhd are at atleast a 30% higher rate for committing suicide than males / male aligned people are.
Fact #5- people with adhd have a hard time dealing with rejection. This is a case of rejection sensitivity which means that they aren’t able to truly understand or deal with harsh rejection. Especially by important people in their lives
Fact #6- people with adhd often struggle to explain the way they feel or find the right words for ow they feel so they are often left saying nothing at all.
Fact #7- while getting on medication definitely helps people with adhd to socialize and understand the world around them better , it does NOT get rid of the disability.
Fact #8- some people with adhd have a hard time focusing or paying attention but mostly people work adhd have a hard time STAYING focused for long excessive periods of time. This is due to the rate their brain is going every day.
Fact #9- although a lot of the symptoms for adhd can be grouped together to speak for everyone , not everyone’s symptoms play out the same. Some people work adhd are hyper active and others are under active
Fact #10- although it’s one of the rarest symptoms of adhd that people talk about it’s a huge one. Many people with adhd experience short term memory loss. Many ppl with adhd say this symptom only increases as they grew older
Fact #11- ppl with adhd often have a lot of trouble keeping to routines. So they don’t have good sleep patterns or eating patterns. Mostly because they simply forget to remind themselves of these things or can’t keep with the consistency
Fact #12- a lot of people with adhd were those “gifted kids” you all talk about so much. They may have excelled in grade school , but then did poorly or struggled in college or the work place
Fact #13 - most people with adhd experience a feeling of wanting things to be straight to the point. This is why things like long books , massive paragraphs or lectures ( wether good or bad ) can cause them to feel antsy and anxious
Fact #14- people with adhd can be overwhelmed with things like bad news , trivial arguments , noisy rooms , bright lights , emotional events or even something as simple as the tags that are on clothing
Fact #15- some people with adhd have a reverse affect with coffee , especially people with adhd in their adulthood. This means that rather then the caffeine making them energetic and awake , it helps them fall asleep.
Fact #16- adhd can affect a person ability to do normal everyday things such as ; cleaning up , staying organized , prioritization, and following through with plans or activities
Fact #17 - hygiene can be tricky for people with adhd mostly bc their brain doesn’t compartmentalize that hygiene is something you do everyday. Ppl with adhd can forget to do the most basic hygiene if not reminded in some way form or fashion
Fact #18- a lot of people with adhd have something called executive distinction, which means that they can know they should be doing something , want to do that something but their body prevents them from getting up and doing it +
This is NOT laziness , but rather another symptom of adhd that is ignored / goes unnoticed.
Fact #19 - because people with adhd have trouble controlling and managing their feelings they can have random out bursts of angry , sadness or frustration that come on quickly and then pass
Fact #20- you know when you walk into a room and then forget why you came in there in the first place? Well this is a reoccurring thing for ppl with adhd that they deal with every single day. This also ties in with the short term memory symptom
Fact #21- what might look like a mess to you , may be organization to someone with adhd. Although others may not be able to find things , they will know exactly where everything is in the clutter. If someone were to clean up the mess it could set the person with adhd back
Fact #22- many people with adhd In their early adulthood years say that they experienced trouble doing normal adult things like going to work , remembering to pay bills , and doing their own taxes. This is probably bc of the way a persons nervous system is with adhd
Fact #23- fidgeting is also a symptom of adhd. Most people with adhd always have to be doing something with their hands or feet in order to stay focused or to generally not overwhelm themselves
There is a lot more I could add but this thread is already full of a lot of good information on adhd and it’s symptoms.
