The mayor of Peoria is a real piece of work. He once had a man arrested for setting up a parody account on Twitter.

In 2014, an anon set up an account with the handle @peoriamayor.

The official portrait of the mayor was used as the profile pic.

Some of the tweets under the mayor’s name, Jim Ardis, were rather provocative. 😳

The mayor reported the account to the Peoria Police Department.

Citing a law that makes it a misdemeanor offense to impersonate a public official, the PPD applied for a search warrant and a judge approved.

The PPD served twitter the warrant. Twitter, in turn, gave up the IP address used to create the account without any opposition.

Comcast then supplied the home address of the account’s creator.

(Be warned, anons: big tech will not fight to maintain your anonymity)

So the cops raided the poor guy’s home and confiscated his electronic equipment and, unfortunately for him, some pot as well.

It really makes you wonder why the mayor was so eager to shut down an obvious parody account.

Does he have something to hide? 🤔
