Where are jobs near Caltrain in Santa Clara? Where do people live? Notably San Antonio station seems to have the most residents, but it also has among the worst service, and next to an awful pseudo-highway interchange. Great land use planning Palo Alto and Mountain View!
Santa Clara County spent much of the last half century ruining as many station areas as possible. All except San Jose Diridon and Mountain View feature massive pseudo-freeway style interchanges, and about half immediately abut the awful Central Expressway/Alma St car sewer.
An obvious land use change post-Caltrain frequency upgrades is to start fixing that. The easiest one is at Palo Alto Station where University avenue should simple intersect El Camino and Alma Street at grade.
If that's too difficult to stomach at a minimum downgrading University-El Camino from the current freeway style atrocity to something like you find in the Bronx, or frankly all over Europe would be a good compromise.
Another Great (Awful) Example is Sunnyvale, which has this elevated highway style atrocity next to downtown. Clearly designed by a highway engineer with zero idea of how to make a community friendly to non-auto users.
