The @sfchronicle's Aidin Vaziri reports that "ICUs remained at 0% capacity statewide, as the Southern CA & San Joaquin Valley regions reported they had no hospital beds available." But HHS data shows CA has a seasonally normal 14% ICU capacity available. https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/California-hospital-crisis-levels-off-but-15832642.php
Los Angeles County, for example, reports 15% ICU capacity available & SF County 34%. Some hospitals may see capacity approach zero, as many often do this time of year, but contrary to @MusicSF's claim, California ICUs on average are not overflowing.
Also, California's available ICU capacity has been stable at around 15% for the past couple of weeks. CoV2+ ICU pts are rising, but bear in mind that many of these are merely testing positive & are likely in the ICU not for COVID treatment, but for other reasons.
Vaziri also quotes Newsom on LA Cnty ERs: “Routine ER care is being slowed. The impact of this pandemic is being felt on the entire hospital system.” But this doesn't appear to be true either. LAC's 4 DHS hospitals show ED visits as stable for months & below FY18-19's avg of 842.
A little reporting on the facts, in addition to quoting Governor Newsom or other officials, would be a great public service.
