1) #DietaryGuidelines thread. My quest to heal started in 2013. I decided to throw everything I’d ever heard out. Start at completely neutral starting point.

Then every nutrition and wellness assertion I’d ever heard had to make its case. I privileged evolution and real food. https://twitter.com/bigfatsurprise/status/1343975875059048448
2) The biggest issues to me, beyond real food, was the macronutrient issue. My grandmother was high carb: passed of T2. Uncle was, passed of T3. Myself and wife were: both morbidly obese and Met Syn. High carb was killing us. So what was the evidence for ‘fats bad’. Esp saturated
3) There wasn’t any. The Dietary Guidelines, Diet-Heart hypothesis was at the very best a guess. And what supported it? How did all my MD confidently say saturated fat bad, high carb WTG? It was based on Ancel Keys heavily flawed cherry-picked associational studies. 😳😳WTH?
4) I’ve done many things including high school science teacher. Keys work would have flunked my high school class. Why? He Cherry-picked. His six country study had 20 plus countries he choose the best fit. Yes 3 generations of family suffering based on, IMO, absolute non-Science
5) Whenever tried to be proven to help like Nurses study, WHI, etc high carb failed. 50 years of seeing my contrary being brought to its knees from lifestyle diseases and the U.S. hits the macro suggestions spot on. So I went high fat, low carb. Then the question is what fats.
6) Here again #DietaryGuidelines got it wrong IMO. Advocated PUFA fats that clobber mitochondria, lead to insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation. So I opted out of what McGovern called an experiment. #IOptedOutOfTheDietaryGuidelines. What happened? Healing+Thriving #hope
7) But the most important thing to always understand about the #DietaryGuidelines, my advice, anyone’s advice is this: YOU are your own laboratory and state of the art customized research lab. #ResearchYourOwnExperience. Take the pilot seat. Observe, measure, tweak. And Soar.
