I’ve started watching this 4 set thriller, Nadal x Mathieu at RG, the biggest ever 4 setter. It takes a while, it’s 5 hours long, and so far this is the best point of the match. The 1st 4 games of the match were all breaks of serve. It’s a real clash of attack x defense!
Mathieu held serve at 6-5, Nadal served under pressure. He was facing a 2nd set point, having saved the 1st. The way he saved is peak classic Nadal. How many times did Mathieu win this point, 3? Still, set point saved

I’m not joking, I will finish this match. So far, it’s a highlight recommended affair. Couldn’t believe this point when Mathieu held his nerve in hitting CCBhs against Nadal’s FH. Nadal, especially in ‘06, had this way of making you hit another shot and make an error
Especially for Rafans: How highly do you rank this passing shot? YouTube comments were very generous with it, saying it’s in his top 10. It’s not the most impressive one I’d say, but the wrist work here is uncanny. The angle he found also, very difficult

Now both players holding serve and hitting very comfortably. Nadal’s BH is now moving more than in the entire match!
To finish this thread, aggression when Rafa was serving for the match. Mathieu tried his best, with points like this, but Rafa was very clutch. Put 3 good serves and served it out, with booing from the crowd, a SUPERB match!
