THREAD: Okay, I saw another person today poking fun about why everyone is worried about a virus w/ a 99.5% survival rate. So here’s a little analogy to give some context.
How would U feel about being forced to board an airplane of 200 ppl under the following circumstances? /1
Early in the flight, 140 of you will be pulled aside & injected with a dose of a toxin. All of you get sick, but most of you just have fevers/cough/mild shortness of breath.
/2
A bit later, 25 of U are selected4 a more potent toxin, & are moved to small cells. After a terrifying wait, 10 of U are randomly selected for being waterboarded. Ur also told that U have a 1 in 10 chance of being thrown off the plane
/3
U are alone & terrified, but some of ur fellow passengers (who have now recovered) start taunting U for worrying abt a 1 in 10 chance of being the person thrown off the plane. “I suspect being waterboarded is bad,” they say, “but the odds are still in your favor, honey!”
/4
Consider that 2000 such planes take off every day. Some people thought, when there were only 1,000 planes taking off each day, that it was time to stop worrying abt the problem. “Most ppl survive the flights. I NEED to go to a bar & get w/ my maskless friends in crowds!” /5
Ppl’s behavior resulted in going from 1,000 flights to 2,000, yet they continue to cite their right to not wear masks indoors. They even make fun of those willing to make some small sacrifices to GREATLY reduce > 175,000 fellow Americans being forced onto such flights EachDay! /6
PLEASE, don’t be complicit is this atrocity. Distance&Mask indoors AND then get vaccinated when it’s your turn. Many have given their lives for this country; you’re just being asked to do some very small things.
