I saw a very knowledgable hill reporter say McC doesn't care how unpopular this is, he's just focused on saving those to Georgia Senators. This seems very off to me. First, I'll say that I don't think checks will determine the GA sen races. But as close as they are, they ...
/ could. I do not see how having the Georgians come out in support of the checks. Validate that it's good policy and have McConnell refuse a vote helps them. Not one bit. If I'm the opposing campaigns I LOVE that message to close on.
/ If I'm the Dems my conversation for the last week is this: you know it's right. So get McConnell to do it. Oh wait, you can't. But you say it's critical that McConnell control the senate. But he does the wrong thing and you can't convince him.
/ Also, you were against it before you were for it. It's just a perfect message for boxing these two up and putting them on the defensive. Will it turn the election? No idea. But it won't help. The real story is that McConnell is agains the checks AND his caucus is against ...
/ the checks. And they're against them enough that it's worth a risky move on losing control. And why? Because austerity is the main GOP goal right now. Because Biden.
