Okay, so here is a summary of what I like and dislike about Ancestry if you are thinking about joining.
1) It is super easy to use. You put in your information and your parents information and it starts suggesting people for your tree.

2) If the people are still alive it hides all their info from people you havent shared your tree with.

4) Which is also part of the problem. It suggests hints for you, but 100 of them will be census data for each year the person was alive. Or they will give you the draft cards for your 3rd cousin twice removed. And its hard to filter what kind of hints you get.
5) The search parameters are also hard to use. It is a little too easy to go from 10,000 hits to 0 when you narrow down age range and name.
6) The other thing I dont like is that when you search for women it automatically adds their married name to the end.

so it is hard to find info on women before they were married if you have them in your tree as married.
7) it is also a little too easy to create loops in your tree by accidentally adding the same person twice. It is super easy to fix it but there is no back button.

8) I filter a lot out by having my tree just direct decedents. I dont have my grandparents cousins or anyone Im not directly related to. The information gets overwhelming so quickly
9) the other thing that makes it hard is a lot of the information I find is based on other people's trees and you dont know how dependable they are.
10) Ancestry is always trying to make money and are now charging a separate fee for being able to search newspaper listings.

This is really annoying because newspapers of all things should be free on the site.

12) for some reason I dont understand hints are only good for so long. So if you are absent for a while, you cant access a lot of the hints.
13) When I signed up a bunch of years ago there was just one subscription and all this stuff was included. Now it isnt. The upgrades are expensive.
