Where will print media in SE Minnesota be printed in 2021? With Forum selling the Red Wing Republican-Eagle to O'Rourke Media Group, the production facility in Red Wing was not part of the deal. I drove by this weekend...building is for sale/lease...
News release announcing the sale said production would continue as-is through end of January 2021, "at which time the production facility will permanently close and positions not included in the acquisition will be cut."
Red Wing facility was printing Republic-Eagle, Rochester Post-Bulletin, Cannon Falls Beacon, Zumbrota News-Record, and likely more...Rochester Post-Bulletin has been printed in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (!!!) and trucked to the Rochester post office as of late October 2020.
As someone who has worked in print media, and still consumes print (and digital) content from many of the aforementioned publications, the future is uncertain to say the least. A few other tidbits...
Sounds like the Cannon Shopper (part of the O'Rourke portfolio) is ceasing production as of this week. The Red Wing shopper was discontinued in earlier 2020. Shoppers still tend to be strong in generating revenue, especially in more rural areas...
Is O'Rourke planning a re-booted shopper covering CF/RW markets and beyond? I write all of this not to speculate, but to share information I've been hearing and can't seem to find any clear answers...if anyone out there has info to add or some answers, feel free to share.
