Every now and then, a video with a lot of clips of laborers demonstrating extreme dexterity and skill at their "mundane" jobs circulates. It's usually from apolitical meme-circulation/content-stealing accounts, usually only saying something like "you won't BELIEVE the skills! 😍"
These posts go viral pretty easily, but what also goes viral pretty easily is a QRT with a comment like "there are no unskilled workers, just underpaid ones". I get what these posts are going for - using a moment and a platform to talk about class politics - but it always bugs me
Because the things in these videos are legitimately remarkable feats of human skill and coordination that not everybody is going to be capable of. And even if they were, these are skills developed under duress of a desperation to make a living.
They are things you learn to do because your boss screams at you to get more gonna while being paid like shit, and you do it because you need to feed and shelter your family. And they are very physical and repetitive things that can and will cause health problems down the line.
They are things that some of your disabled friends couldn't possibly do if they tried, too.

So it's going to weird me out when you show people working way faster and harder than anybody should have to and say "this is why workers should be paid more."
To that, I say, no, because you are still tying life to marketable labor.

I want easier jobs with shorter shifts staffed by people who are paid more to work less and I'm not kidding.

And people with no jobs? Pay them too.
The only reason this isn't already how society works is because it wouldn't be possible for billionaires to keep their stranglehold on you and squeeze billions of people for every drop of blood-profit they can. The whole game falls apart if you aren't dependent on wage slavery.
