Disclaimer: I am not taking “fraud happened” or “fraud didn’t happen” side. I am answering those who've asked me how fraud can be addressed in #ElectoralCollege if/when it occurs. As a foundational matter: I believe the problems started this summer when Governors began unilaterally changing election procedures, without legislative input. This was wrong. STATE LEGISLATURES are responsible for election laws. /3 #ElectoralCollege

This truth holds especially true in pres’l elections. #ElectoralCollege looks to *state legislatures* to be responsible for their states. The buck always stops w/ state legislators. Thus, 1st mistake made by too many legislators was a failure to push back on Govs this summer. /4

We have THREE branches of government. Why have we ignored #RuleofLaw all year? Why are Govs creating law when that’s the legislature’s job? How unsurprising that people distrust the election outcome after months & months of thumbing our noses @ Rule of Law. /5 #ElectoralCollege

The MSM had one job during month of November: Focus a spotlight on the states in question, allowing each & every claim to be fully vetted in public eye. Instead, MSM declared a winner & poked fun at voters who question the lack of transparency in elections. /6 #ElectoralCollege

#1 reason #ElectoralCollege protects agst fraud is bc of this spotlight that can be created,focused on problem areas. It's too hard to monitor every single precinct, nationwide, w/ this kind of intense scrutiny, but it's much easier to scrutinize handful of areas in this way. /7

This is what we did in Florida in 2000. Everyone had minute-by-minute updates on the recounts & lawsuits for weeks on end. It's what should have happened in AZ, NV, MI, WI, PA, & GA this year. /8 #ElectoralCollege

NO ONE should be confused as to what happened with some of the claims of observers getting kicked out, etc. Every American should know what happened & why. /9 #ElectoralCollege

Courts rightfully kicked out some claims & wd help if voters knew why. Also: some claims never fleshed out bc suits not heard for procedural reasons. How much better wd it be if MSM had hosted both GOP & Dem lawyers to explain things, case by case,every day? /10 #ElectoralCollege

Instead, Trump supporters watch their news channels where they never hear the Democratic side of the case. And Democrats watch their news channels where they never hear the concerns of Trump supporters. /11 #ElectoralCollege

State legislatures are the appropriate body to fix this terrible situation in which we find ourselves. It is their job to make sure their states are rightfully represented. It is their job to make sure elections are transparent. /12 #ElectoralCollege

Some state legislators are genuinely up a creek for now because they are not in session. I hope their first order of business when they meet in January will be to provide for automatic special sessions during #ElectoralCollege disputes. /13

I hope 2nd order of business will be to investigate claims that have been made very thoroughly & to fix voting systems. Even if they find that probs were minimal and/or not systemic, this thorough investigation absolutely must happen for voter confidence. /14 #ElectoralCollege

Voters: Your state legislators are accountable to YOU. If you don’t like how they're handling election, then pick up phone & call. Demand they go on record w/their thoughts about disputes in yr state. They can do this whether in session or not. /15 #ElectoralCollege

Too many of us fail to pay attention to races for local office. We need to pay more attention. If you don’t like what happened this year, then make your voices heard in 2022. I hope 2020 has taught us that we need trustworthy local officials, too. /16 #ElectoralCollege

One last thought about the #ElectoralCollege and fraud: While I think a brighter spotlight should have been shone on AZ, NV, MI, WI, PA, & GA this year, the structure of our system did give us enough of a spotlight to see the presence of potential problems. /17 #ElectoralCollege

But for the #ElectoralCollege, would we have any idea that there were potential problems in places like Detroit? I doubt it. We would have seen a 7 million vote margin and simply moved on. /18 #ElectoralCollege
