There’s a conversation to be had about the behavioral negligence of gays during this pandemic and how it relates to the general apathy many queers have towards the value of their own lives simply because we exist in a society that teaches us our lives are worth less than others.
We’ve been told that HIV/AIDS is gonna kill us, that we’re going to Hell and every other thing there is you can possibly say to a person to discourage them from wanting to exist. There’s mass public and even legislative pressure that exists to discourage and suppress queerness.
And it works! Heterosexuals have had a centuries long head start in making queer people feel worthless and they take every opportunity they can to do so. Unfortunately, in this case, we’re kinda new to this and they are TRUE to this.
Now, that doesn’t excuse generally reckless behavior, but it certainly provides some insight in my opinion as to why we so often make selfish choices in defiance of reason. It’s mistakenly rewarded and packaged as being part of the generally rebellious nature of our existence
The question that queer people need to ask in these situations is: are you being righteously defiant or this an expression of how you have internalized negative perceptions of your worth?

It’s not always an easy question to navigate.
