Fandom by in large is a luxury hobby and sometimes requires loads of free time AND money (merch buying, cosplays, cons, etc) to participate and the majority of people who have both of those in spades are mostly white folks.
WHICH is why convos about racism in fandom is a needed thing to happen however the convo get diverted because folks will find a pairing they hate and go "this is the reason!" which gives cover to actual racists in fandom space
