The tree is located in the Giardino Garibaldi (Palermo, #Sicily), built between 1861 and 1864 by architect G.B.F Basile in Piazza Marina, & named after the national hero G. Garibaldi to celebrate the birth of the 🇮🇹 nation.

The #ficus was planted in 1863.

#Ficusmacrophylla, also called #Ficusmagnolioides, is native to eastern #Australia.

First described by James Cook in 1770, it was imported to Eu in the early 19th century.

This plant is part of the large Moraceae family and is characterized by being an evergreen banyan tree.

One of the most interesting features of Ficus m. is the presence of several columnar aerial roots that become additional trunks, supporting the top of the tree.
