I’ve already said about this a million times but for people who don’t know - everybody with a mobile in Britain should text “register” to 999. It takes seconds, and will mean that, in an emergency where you are unable to speak, you can text 999 instead of calling.
But it won’t work until you’re registered. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU’RE IN AN EMERGENCY TO REGISTER. Do it right now before you forget. You literally text them the word “register”, then they’ll reply, and you send one more text saying “yes”. That’s it. Seconds.
Let everyone know, especially your kids or any hard of hearing/mute people you know. Absolutely any one of us could be in a situation where we need this service, one day.
If you do ever need it, remember “who, what, where”.
Include in the text:
WHO: which emergency service you need.
WHAT: a brief description of the emergency.
WHERE: the location of the emergency. As specific as possible. If you don’t know the address, list any landmarks nearby.
