I’m with John on this, it’s time for us Remainers to suck it up and back this deal, as it is the only option on the table beside No Deal, and for us to accept that Johnson won a mandate from the people to deliver a deal he has successfully managed to deliver. Even if we hate it. https://twitter.com/johnmcternan/status/1343852453977010176
We’ve lost this argument politically and electorally multiple times. The only viable choice for Remainers now is to support Labour voting for the deal, even through gritted teeth, pass it, then try to win the next election to make changes.
I want to rejoin the single market and accept the EU’s four freedoms. I think that is what is in the best interests of our country. I also understand that there is no route to this option without giving the electorate the thing they provided the government with a mandate for.
I don’t like this deal, I think it makes us worse off, and I think our country will be a poorer place, both economically and culturally, because of it. But if I was a Labour MP, I’d walk through the Aye door, as painful as that might be for me personally.
The war for Britain’s place in the world is ongoing, but the battle to remain in the EU was lost long ago. We need to accept that & prepare for what comes next. Nothing is permanent in politics, we retain the power to change this outcome, but that doesn’t come about by voting no.
And please, for the love of God, please stop acting like we’re still in 2019 with a second referendum still floating around as a potential outcome. There was potential for it in 2019, but, again, we lost. Time to lick our wounds and prep for the next battle.
