Our trip to Port Nolloth, Northern Cape [A Thread]
We stay in PTA and have made it a tradition to go to the beach each year to leave the year there and start afresh. This year we chose Port Nolloth Northern Cape because we knew there'd be very few people there and the chances of catching covivi would be limited.
The place is far, some 14 hour away from home by car. We could fly there because it would be unaffordable. So we decided to break the trip up.
We drove to Upington, which is 9 hours away. We stayed a lodge called African Vineyard. Beautiful place on the Orange river...because there were so few of us we even got upgraded to a honeymoon suite
Some pictures of African Vineyards, Upington, Northern Cape.
We then had a nice breakfast and drove to Port Nolloth
As we were leaving, Upington we asked the owner of African Vineyards, what ti expect. She said to us we must buy all the food we'd need because all they had at Port Nolloth was a Spar...we get there and let me tell you about this town guys
As you drive the R352, its literally like you are leaving civilization, there's a mountainous pass after which its literally 99 kms of straight road. Its like a scene out of Mad Max. Absolutely stunning, very open and unforgettable.
The R352 drives straight to this! Literally!
These are some of the views...if only we had a better camera person
They have a wooden walkway that was perfect for late afternoon walks and that what we spent most of the afternoon doing (Didn't take any pictures 🙃)
Our hotel didn't have good wifi and the network signal is not the best there so we didn't get any alerts. We had dinner at a lovely small homestyle resturant right next to the hotel, which had some of the best pizza I've ever had!
We then walk to the hotel, have drinks at the bar and then went to our room for bed. We woke this morning and as we are about to take our morning walk we find a queue of panicked white people checking out. We ask what's going on and appearently there was a family meeting maobane
We also check out and start driving towards home and as we start properly reading the speech and the regulations we realise that noh, maan, all this stuff does not apply to the Northern Cape. Here we are back in Upington, we decided to try and go to our "coming back hotel"
Instead of driving back home, we were handsomely rewarded
