Margatha Natarajar murthi
Unique Natarajar made of emerlad which is about 5/6 feet tall.
It is always covered with sandal paste.Only on day of Thriuvadhirai Star in Tamil month Margazhi (Dec/Jan) Nataraja can be worshipped without sandal paste.
This festival is on 30th Dec.This murthi is in Uthirakosamangai temple near Ramanathapuram,TN
After removing the sandal paste,day long rituals & variety of abhishekam will be done.We can worship this Emerald/ Maragatha Nataraja & seek his blessings only on this day.
Next day,sanctum sanctorum of Maragatha Nataraja will be closed after anointing the murthi with fresh sandal paste.Nataraja is covered with sandal paste throughout the year as Emerald has scientific property of its molecules getting disturbed when exposed to light/water/sound.
This temple is an ancient Shiva temple considered to be 3000 years old. This place is believed to be where Bhagwan Shiva gave the Veda gyaana to Parvati Devi.This temple has some stunning sculptures.Bhagwan Shiva is called as Managalanathar & devi is Managalambigai.
