Every year NHS senior leaders, journalists and some politicians have tried to tell us that every year the NHS has almost reached breaking point, and every year the govt and some sides of the media has sought to deny this.

So this year, as we confront the consequences of a mishandled public health emergency on top of years of mishandled public health management, remember that the alarm bells were sounded often and consistently before this worst case scenario.

So the next time you hear a conservative or right wing commentator reporting shock over the state of the NHS or seeking to blame its failures on anything or anyone that isn’t the govt, know that the smallest bit of Googling (“nhs winter crisis/crises”!) presents a different story
