I've read alot of tweets complaining about our "crossing into the box" game plan. Recently, we've had to play low block teams,to break them down, there are 3 main approaches:
1. Skilled players who can dribble between mass of bodies
2. Long range through balls
3. Crossing in for either:
a. Someone to finish off or
b. To open them up, thereby creating space for someone else to pounce on the loose ball for a direct volley or lay a pass in the box for someone else to use.
None of this is easy. It's a plus advantage when you have full
backs who can cross, wingers who stretch teams wide.
Pulisic did alot yesterday to dribble into the box, it wasn't really successful because we didn't have many players with so much dribbling threat.
Odoi made use of a different approach, switched play many times with long balls,
setting up plays for crosses.
Jorginho couldn't use his long balls because we don't have a fast striker. Save to say we really miss Ziyech. The criticisms about crossing have been unfair, when you consider the opponent had about 8 or 9 players in and outside the box area.
Our players weren't willing to those risky passes, seeing how we lost to Wolves from a loose cross. Here is why we need Ziyech, a player who's unfazed nor scared of taking risk. It's more about players character & mentality than quality or coaching. Loosing 3 games out of 4 is
enough to inflict that scare that can hinder freedom and confidence.

Hopefully, things get better from here. I wish our match against City can be cancelled, we need the break to strategize and gather strength. It's not over, we're still in it.
