Things Twitter Taught Me In 2020 (A Thread) 1/22
.Being woke is bad.
http://2.In  other words, having empathy is bad. Being sensitive to other people’s feelings is bad. Being aware and accepting is bad.
.Wanting to stay in the European Union is also bad. Worse, you’re labelled a Remoaner. Worse, you’re a traitor to your country. Worse, why don’t you go and live somewhere else if you don’t like it?
.If you do want to go and live somewhere else because your own country makes it impossible for you to survive or be yourself, you should suck it up and stay where you belong.
.Being a multi-millionaire author making endless attacks against a much-maligned and often-derided community makes you brave.
.Apparently, feeding children, helping families, supporting others is wrong.
.Supporting Black Lives Matter makes you racist. Really.
Supporting the T in LGBTQ+ makes you homophobic. Seriously.
People claiming to be cancelled – journalists, commentators, writers, actors, politicians – get fucking everywhere.
Having an Equalities Minister who is against equality is acceptable.
Having a Home Secretary who’s a bully is acceptable. Ditto a Home Secretary who wants to limit people’s travel. Ditto a Home Secretary who takes delight in limiting people’s travel.
Ditto a Leader of the House of Commons who believes in Jesus but not in kids eating.
Ditto a Health Secretary who pretends (badly) to cry on TV and doesn’t know the lockdown rules.
Ditto a Prime Minister who continually protects his mates. Track and trace anyone?
Breaking your own rules and pissing off the majority of the UK to test your eyes is fine (and also carries no remorse, regret or punishment).
Comparing the number of people who died on roads with the number of under 60s with no underlying health conditions who died from Covid-related issues somehow, somehow, makes perfectly good sense.
In fact, why stop there? Isn’t it about time we stopped thinking about the over 60s as having any value whatsoever? Or anyone with an underlying health condition? Or anyone who’s got a bit of a tickle?
I'd rather be a woke, wrong, knee-taking, mask-wearing, distance-keeping, empathic, European, inclusive friend and ally. I’d also quite like to help protect my family and friends, no matter how old they are or what other health conditions they may have.
Somehow, I’ve 3,193 followers, and there are brilliant people on here who liven up my day and make me smile (and think) lots.
PS. At time of writing, there’s still 2 days of 2020 to go. Fingers crossed nothing else happens, eh? 😊
