The #COVID19 crisis accelerated the digital transition at our Belgian Embassies abroad and gave a new impulse to the use of social media.

Our Belgian Embassies around the world have been modernising the consular services offered to the increasing number of Belgians abroad.

This includes digitizing all the files of the Belgian citizens residing abroad to get rid of all remaining paper files.

Diplomacy is all about interaction and relationships.
This year, physical meetings were cancelled and replaced by Zoom meetings and webinars.
Our Belgian Embassies adapted to this new situation, held thousands of online meetings and organised virtual King's Day events.

During the first phase of the #COVID19 crisis we repatriated more than 10,000 Belgian citizens.
We supported our compatriots through our 24/7 call center and responded daily to more than thousand questions on Facebook.
