REMINDER that if schools close, you can ask to be furloughed for childcare reasons. The gov should be pressurising employers to use the scheme for this. First time around, we heard of lots of well-known 'family-friendly' employers who refused to furlough for this reason 1/
MPs should be ensuring constituents know this. Schools should share with parents. Unions need to push employers on it. And industry bodies like CIPD, CBI need to start showing up for parent employees this time around if schools and childcare close again. 2/
Also, minimum claim period is now 7 days so if a school is shut for 2 weeks (as is being proposed by some) its entirely possible in two-parent families, for the childcare to be shared among both parents (one week each) rather than it being left to the mother to be furloughed 3/3
