A quick thread on stats comparing Mitro & Cavaleiro in the main striker role for Fulham. Based on FBRef data in games started since the match against Crystal Palace (which marks the move to the current direct attacking approach). Covers 3 starts for Mitro and 6 for Cav #FFC (1/7)
Some attacking metrics here with little to choose between the players, most notable thing is that, excluding pens, both players take similar numbers of shots, but Cavs tend to be better chances, generating about 60% more xG per shot (not that he is converting the chances)...(2/7)
This table shows individual defensive numbers, interestingly, although Cav applies more pressures to opposition players, Mitro does it more effectively (wins possession), Mitro also tackles and blocks more (and wins headers) while Cav wins more loose balls...(3/7)
...This table highlights some differences in defensive team performance, despite the individuals numbers, the team presses much more in the attacking and middle thirds of the pitch (nearly 50% more) when Cav is playing up top - this may be the reason for Cavs selection (4/7)
The next table compares passing metrics, there is little difference here except Cav tends to complete slightly longer passes than Mitro (5/7)
Finally I look at in possession stats, Cav averages more touches per game although slightly fewer in the box, he also dribbles more and does so much more towards the opposition's goal (Mitro tends to dribbles away from goal in hold up play) (6/7)
So I think the key takeaways from this is probably those team defensive numbers, Cav's additional mobility seems to contribute to a more effective team pressing effort although this is not apparent looking at his individual numbers (7/7)
