It’s really interesting to see this tension play out in a couple of different spaces recently around young adult expectations of Internet communities versus other folks.
I very much felt like an interloper into adult spaces when I was fucking around online as a kid, versus a default assumption that seems to suggest that all communities should be child safe by default coming from some of the young people involved in those conversations.
They are fundamentally different worldviews!
But it’s very disorienting to see a belief that you are owed access to the creators of content you like, and that they are obligated to tie their own accounts to the audience of what they produce! Sometimes people involved in children’s media are horny online.
I find it so fundamentally weird when folks of any age engage with the people who create the stuff they like, because it’s just so very much not what was happening when I was younger.
Anyway creating children’s media seems to be the most thankless possible career to be in if you want to use Twitter, Godspeed to those who do.
Like this is wild to me! I fundamentally don’t think it’s their responsibility of someone posting adult content to obscure it from other users. The adult content I found as a kid was bc I was a pubescent little gremlin. If it had made me uncomfortable I would’ve stuck to neopets.
