so since the topic of astrology has come up again on scitwitter i donāt think Iāve fully explained what i mean when I say itās not harmless outside of the west... hereās an excerpt from a āreviewā from an Indian researcher
people genuinely believe this stuff and let it dictate everything from medical treatments to careers to who they marry
so Iām all for not being condescending jerks about it but you will not find me saying this stuff is āvalidā when people are being taken advantage of by astrologers in my own home country
on a more personal level itās very difficult for me to have made a huge effort to escape practices like these only to find them becoming fashionable in the west. Ofc yāall are free to enjoy what you like, my ability to do so is limited thanks to my experiences growing up with it!
bookmarking this to repost every time yāall say astrology is harmless because Iām kinda tired of making the same point over and over and watching it get ignored bc it doesnāt focus on the west
