honestly after seeing a bunch of fucking dipshit children and various adults who should have known better all fall for a bunch of terf shit about asexuals i have very little patience for intra-queer moral panics of any kind. it is very tiring.
none of it actually works to change anything anyway, all that happens is the people who fall for it beat their heads against a wall and maybe manage to fuck up the lives of a couple people who were too powerless to do anything about stop them
the mob that gets whipped up sometimes coalesces around some people who misuse that power both on the mob's targets and its membership, you get intra-mob abuses of power, etc etc
i get really defensive about this when i see it because it feels threatening, and then i just get depressed. everyone who gets involved in it ends up harmed, except possible opportunists who realize they can use the mob for their own purposes
and opportunists who use fighting the mob to get a foothold on power, or who can use it to get a grip on people who have their lives fucked up by it
i think a lot about how terfs find cis women who have been abused by cis women and convince them to turn that anger against trans women, because they're vulnerable. the only people who get anything out of that is the ringleaders and funders like the heritage foundation
the decent thing is to side with the trans women being attacked, obviously, but it's wise to try to recognize the pattern, to avoid falling for the same one yourself in other contexts.
